Texans rookie RB Tate done for season
Houston Texans rookie running back Ben Tate will miss the season due to a fractured ankle, head coach Gary Kubiak announced on Monday.
Tate was carted off the field in the third quarter of Saturday’s 19-16 loss to Arizona.
The second-round pick will be placed on injured reserve and will undergo surgery later this week.
“The surgery should be fine; he should be back playing next year,” Kubiak said. “It’s a big blow because we were counting on him a great deal. He’s a good-looking young player, but he’ll be back. He’s a good kid. He’ll be back.”
The Auburn product was expected to help boost the team’s paltry running game, which ranked 30th in the NFL a season ago. He ran for 1,362 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior with the Tigers in 2009.
