Giants add former Eagle lineman

The New York Giants have signed offensive lineman Shawn Andrews, who was a two-time Pro Bowl selection with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Andrews missed the entire 2009 season and played just two games in 2008 because of back issues. He was released by the Eagles in March.

The Eagles selected Andrews with the 16th overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft and his rookie season ended in the opener against the Giants because of a broken leg.

Andrews was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2005, then earned Pro Bowl honors each of the next two seasons. A herniated disc in the second game of the 2008 season kept him out the rest of the year. After surgery, he suffered a setback in training camp last summer and missed the entire 2009 season.

The Giants opened a roster spot by waiving offensive lineman Cliff Louis.
