The latest headlines & rumors around the Bigs

Seattle Mariners – The M’s are looking into getting a second baseman because Seattle prefers Figgins at the hot corner. They are also pursuing Miguel Olivo, if they don’t land Miguel, they will shop for Greg Zaun. This would be the second stint for Miguel at Safeco. Matsui is also on their big board, but he is far down their board at this point. Matt Diaz seems to be a strong candidate in 2011 for the M’s. As many as ten other teams are attempting to land Diaz.

New York Mets – New manager Terry Collins would love to get veteran Ronny Paulino as a back-up to Josh Thole, who Collins has all the confidence in.

Cliff Lee latest – Of course the Yankees are top bidders for the prized-lefty, but their is one more team willing to offer a seven-year deal to Lee. Nats could be top bidders for Lee, but it is highly unlikely with the recent signing of Werth. Lee does want a deal with length. Yanks have come out and said they will not bid over what they bid for C.C. (6 years or 161MM). I can see the max bid for the Yanks being between 140-150MM or 6 years.

Derek Jeter – The 36-year-old Jeter will make $51MM across the first three seasons with a $8MM player option for the fourth year. The shortstop can also earn $9MM in incentives for the fourth year but if he earns no incentives while picking up the option, he’s guaranteed at least $56MM. Incentives involve his finish in the MVP, Silver Slugger and Gold Glove voting.

Pittsburgh Pirates – The Bucs are very interested in SS Orlando Cabrera. If they were not to ink O-Cab, then Brendan Ryan, J.J. Hardy and Jason Bartlett would be other possibilities. They want to upgrade from their current SS Ronny Cedeno.

Chicago Cubs – Chicago is looking for bidders for their SP Tom Gorzelanny.

Brandon Webb – The Nats are interested in former All-Star D-back. The Rangers and Cubs met with Brandon Webb’s agent as well.

Vicente Padilla – The Dodgers are close to inking the veteran journeyman. Padilla would join recently signed starters  Hiroki Kuroda, Ted Lilly and Jon Garland. The offer stands at one-year for 2MM.

Rich Harden – Seven teams have been contacted with the former All-Star. The Brewers, Diamondbacks, Mariners. Rays, Rockies, Twins and Yankees are the teams interested.

Kerry Wood – The White Sox and Yanks are interested in signing the once-great starter/closer.

Ty Wigginton – The Colorado Rockies have reached an agreement on a two-year 8MM contract.
