Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is facing a two-match ban after he was caught swearing at a television camera during United’s 4-2 win over West Ham on Saturday.

The outburst came after Rooney converted a penalty kick in the second half to complete his hat trick and put United into the lead, moving the Red Devils seven points clear of second-place Arsenal.

An FA statement read: “The FA has charged Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney for the use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language. This charge relates to an incident during his side’s fixture with West Ham United at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday April 2, 2011.”

Rooney has until Tuesday, April 5 to respond to the charge, and if he either pleads guilty or is found guilty, he could potentially miss this weekend’s match with Fulham as well as United’s FA Cup semifinal contest with Manchester City.
